The 2nd day was spent in an ancient town located about 75 km from Madrid, and has a wide span of history starting from 193 CE.
T had booked a guided tour to Toledo via Get Your Guide, and we had to meet the guide (and the other travellers) at Las Ventas in Madrid. As it was early in the morning, we therefore decided to take the metro to Las Ventas early, and eat the breakfast there. Las Ventas is actually the largest bullfighting ring in Spain. We had plans about going inside Las Ventas after returning from Toledo, but sadly no tickets were available 🙁
Back to Toledo! It is indeed a very beautiful city, and has been influenced by 3 religions; christianity, judaism and islam. In 1986 Toledo was declared an UNESCO World Heritage Site, due to its immeasurable cultural and monumental heritage.
Visiting Toledo was indeed an unforgettable moment. I was literally stunned by its beauty and history. If you ever go to Madrid, visting Toledo is highly recommendable ☺️
The sites we went to:
- Catedral de Toledo – One of the most important churches in Spain, built in Gothic style
- Caso Histórico de Toledo – The old town of Toledo
- Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes – The old Franciscan convent, another Gothic beauty
- Alcazar de Toledo – The ancient moorish (muslim) fortress, built on an earlier Roman fort
- Sinagoga del Tránsito – The jewish synagoge, built by – MUSLIMS. That’s the beauty!
- Mezquita Cristo de la Luz – A muslim mosque, and the oldest monument in Toledo, built in the 10th century
- Iglesia de Santo Tomé – The church of Saint Thomas, but was originally a mosque
- Santa María la Blanca – A synagoge built in moorish influence, that was later converted to a church
- Iglesia de los Jesuitas – A beautiful Baroque church from the 17th century
- Iglesia de Santiago del Arrabal – Another old church from the 13th century, but you are only allowed to see the exterior
- Mirador del Valle – The breathtaking panorama of Toledo
Well, out of all these beautiful sites, I really enjoyed Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes, such a beautiful church, and then the Sinagoga del Tránsito, because of the beautiful relationship that once existed between the muslims and the jews ♥️
Here is a video I made from our visit to Toledo – this place reminded me of the tamill song Hosanna (however, Hosanna was shot in Malta) 🥰
And some pictures from Toledo ♥️
