More sightseeing and Fuente de Cibeles ⚽️♥️

Post-Segway adventure, we hit up the Mercado de San Miguel, the OG indoor market of Madrid! Built way back in 1916—talk about vintage vibes! But today? It’s a tapas wonderland, a gourmet feast waiting to happen. Our mission? Lunch, of course! 😋😍

But let me tell you, I had my eyes on those delectable treats like a kid in a candy store… until Ryan Air crashed the foodie party 🤣 The woes of airline rules – can’t take the taste of Spain home with me 🤣🤪

I got a spanish tortilla with some basil pesto and sundried tomatoes, and it was quite good.

Hereafter we went to Plaza Mayor again to relax a bit, and I got a yummy cheese cake here 😍

After some time with some relaxation in the sun and the lovely atmosphere in Plaza Mayor, we went to Palacio Real de Madrid, as T had bought tickets for a guided tour here. We first went to Plaza de Oriente, a square created in the 19th century, as king Joseph I ordered the demolition of the medieval houses on the site, in favour for this square. The square was desgined by Narciso Pacual y Colomer, an architect. The square is located in front of the royal palace in Madrid, and is a quote beautiful place.

Talk about a royal oopsie! We strutted over to the palace with our tickets, all set for some grand sightseeing action. But bam! Cue the dramatic twist—a sudden royal shindig shuts the palace doors on us, no heads-up, no red carpet, nada! I mean, how bizarre is that royal timing? 😂😅

Thank the stars for T’s smooth moves getting that refund! Still, quite the annoyance, right? So, what do you do when the palace gives you lemons? You chill outside, soak in the regal vibes from Plaza del Armería, and embrace those picturesque views of Campo del Moro like the unofficial palace paparazzi 😂♥️

Time for a helado pitstop, because when in Madrid, ice cream is a must, right? 🍨

So, with our taste buds in a frenzy, we recharged for the next adventure! Off to Plaza de Cibeles we marched, channeling our inner Real Madrid spirit. I mean, come on, Fuente de Cibeles? It’s like the holy grail for us Real Madrid fans – couldn’t resist paying homage to the football vibes! ⚽️🏆

Fuente de Cibeles is a neoclassical fountain located in Plaza de Cibeles, and was built in 1780 by Ventura Rodríguez. It represents the Phrygian goddess Cybele, a goddess of earth and fertility. The Phrygians lived in the ancient Anatolia, that is the present-day Türkiye. However, the Phrygian cult was also spread to mainland Greece. Today Fuente de Cibele is the site where Real Madrid and its supporters celebrate the team’s trophies, and also where the Spanish National Team celebrates its victories 🏆💪🏾✌🏾🤩
