Last Thursday night, I witnessed the most incredible northern lights I’ve ever seen. As I mentioned before, I’m part of a Danish Facebook group where volunteers send out northern lights alerts. I was so disappointed when I missed the beautiful northern lights display in May that was visible in Denmark. At the time, I was in Herning, but I couldn’t get to a clear spot, which really frustrated me.
Fortunately, in August, I had my first experience with the northern lights, and it was a truly special moment. Even though it wasn’t very visible to the naked eye, through my camera lens, the lights were crystal clear! Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to witness the northern lights four more times. However, the solar storm forecast for last Thursday was expected to produce an amazing display, so I was ready for it! I’ve since stopped using my Canon EOS because it’s not ideal for capturing the northern lights (I need a more advanced camera), so I relied on my phone this time.
At around 8 PM, some visible northern lights appeared in pink and green hues. I didn’t expect them to be visible to the naked eye, so I was thrilled to actually see them without camera and rushed outside to capture the moment. I managed to take a few pictures before the lights faded after about 35-40 minutes.

Later, I went to bed, but after an hour of sleep, I woke up at 22.30 and glanced outside my window. To my surprise, I could see some faint green shades!
Luckily, my balcony faces west, so I stepped outside, looked up, and was amazed to see visible red shades above me. I couldn’t believe it – Corona northern lights, right overhead! It was an unbelievable sight, fully visible to the naked eye in red and green, and later, about 2 hours later, I even saw white columns that didn’t require a camera to see! It was like witnessing magic, even more spectacular than my first experience. I was in total awe! 😍😱

After 2 hours of sleep, I again woke up at 1 am to this:

I never thought the northern lights could be so visible in Denmark, but we’ve been fortunate with some recent solar storms. With the sun’s solar maximum peaking from 2024 to mid-2025, I’m sure we’ll get to see even more incredible displays from Ms. Aurora. It’s predicted that the solar maximum will hit its peak in July 2025, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens! 🤩
